President Barack Obama has been named TIME magazine's 2012 Person of the Year, the magazine's managing editor revealed on NBC's TODAY show.
Obama, who also received the distinction in 2008, was chosen this year in part for his successful campaign for re-election despite a surging unemployment rate.
Last year's Person of the Year was not a single individual, rather a cumulative choice "The Protester." Other recent winners include Mark Zuckerberg, Ben Bernanke, and Vladimir Putin.
