Researchers asked participants of a recent study to take a five-day break from their work emails. The group of office workers had their hearts monitored during the hiatus, and the study showed that their stress levels went down without access to work email.

The study also showed that those who were constantly checking their inbox were more distracted. They switched between windows an average of 37 times per hour compared to 18 times per hour for those who were not in their inbox.
