A runaway cobra has put the bite on the social networking world today, with a Twitter page that's attracting tens of thousands of followers.

The venomous, 20-inch-long Egyptian cobra vanished late last week from the Reptile House of the Bronx Zoo, leading officials there to close the attraction while they search for the reptile.

But the Twitter page, bearing the name BronxZoosCobra, is regularly updating to tell an amusing tale of a snake having fun on the streets of New York City. (Warning, some of the tweets are off-color, and certainly beyond our control, click through at your own discretion.)

Among the notable tweets:

Leaving Wall Street. These guys make my skin crawl.

Rockefeller Plaza is amaz....wait...OMG! Tina Fey totally just walked by me! HUUUUGE FAN!

Holding very still in the snake exhibit at the Museum of Natural History. This is gonna be hilarious!

By early afternoon, BronxZoosCobra had more than 50,000 followers who apparently found the tweets hissss-terical.
