How have your children been affected by 9/11?
How have your children been affected by the tragedies of September 11? Did you find an effective way of helping your child cope? How do we best explain the unexplainable to young children? Share your experiences.
We dwell on this too much???? Are you serious, this is much more than something to dwell on, this is something the is etched in our psyche forever, and I as an proud American will never forget...we can NEVER Forget!!!
My older sons birthday is September 11, and he has been profoundly effected by the tragedy. It is naive the think that kids aren't going to be shaken, confused, worried, or any range of other reactions. I think lots of kids lost their innocence that day - their sense that the world is a safe place - and that is truly a shame. I am too young to remember the Cold War, but I suspect we've entered a new Cold War, and that our kids will be effected by the experience the rest of their lives. You hear older adults talk about air-raid drills and worries about missiles. Our kids will be worried about tall buildings falling, strange powders and mysterious illnesses. New enemy, similar reaction.
I put on puppet shows for my kids. Everytime Osama comes on the television they ask me to get the puppet out.
i am not a parent, but feel that our world is a scary place. What was done to us on 9/11 was not right. Although, as a country we do not always do the right things. As a teacher I feel you need to only answer the questions that the children are asking. NO MORE. Let them led you onto what they are thinking and their concerns. Most of all. Allow our children to learn about other cultures, but also to remember we are americans and when traveling outside the usa you come to realize we do have many people who do not like our country and what we stand for. until then, teach your children to love themselves first .
