What helped you following September 11?
Following the attacks on September 11, many have looked to art, in all its forms, for consolation. Did art help comfort you following the attacks? If so, which piece and how did it help?
Sting's "Fragile" from the 'Tribute to Heroes' soundtrack: If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one Drying in the colour of the evening sun Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away But something in our minds will always stay Perhaps this final act was meant To clinch a lifetime's argument That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could For all those born beneath an angry star Lest we forget how fragile we are On and on the rain will fall Like tears from a star Like tears from a star On and on the rain will say How fragile we are How fragile we are On and on the rain will fall Like tears from a star Like tears from a star On and on the rain will say How fragile we are How fragile we are How fragile we are How fragile we are
Proud to be an American. That just said it all!
The only thing that got me through all that NY horror show was porno flicks. I rented about 2 dozen and survived.

Since I do find that music is a great mental release here are some of the songs that has helped me over the last year: To match the anger I felt I listened to: If I Had a Rocket Launcher by Bruce Cockburn and Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who (this was influenced by their performance at the Concert for NY) Songs that helped to get past that day All That You Dream by Little Feat "I've Been down but not like this before.." and Salt of The Earth by The Rolling Stones - When I heard this song I could not help but think of all the Police, Fireman & EMTs and not just those that were taken from us, but those that survived too. Big thanks to all Emergency personnel that respond when the public needs your help!!!!

As the tragedy unfolded, he and his band, including several Americans struggled to decide whether to cancel or to go on. In the end, they decided to go on with a different show than planned. Sting opened the broadcast with a brief announcement that only one song would be broadcast that evening. He began an acoustic version of "Fragile". "....how fragile we are..."
