A life of tears and laughter
John F. Kennedy Jr. has been a fixture on the American landscape from that sad November day in 1963 when, only 3, he bravely saluted his father's funeral procession.

Few events broke the hearts of single women more than JFK Jr.'s relationship with Carolyn Bessette. Their marriage was carried out in secrecy on a secluded Georgia island, away from the media.

Though JFK Jr. eschewed politics, many Kennedy observers believed it was only a matter of time before he followed his father's footsteps. However, it was in publishing the magazine George that JFK Jr. left his mark.

The crash of JFK Jr.'s Piper Saratoga II HP claimed his life, as well as that of his wife, Carolyn, and her sister, Lauren Bessette. It is one in a long list of tragedies that have befallen the Kennedy family.

Shortly after John Kennedy, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and Lauren Bessette's remians were found a few miles off the coast of Gay Head, they were all buried at sea. A private service was held on the USS Briscoe for the Kennedy's and Bessette's.

On Thursday and Friday there were a number of memorial services for the three passengers of JFK Jr.'s Piper Saratoga accross the country. Most notably was the service Thursday night that drew thousands to the Old St. Pats Cathdral. Friday 350 people, including the Kennedy family, the parents of the Bessette women, and other friends of John and Carolyn, streamed into the Church of St. Thomas More in Manhattan.
