WASHINGTON, D.C.
The District of Columbia will become the first city in the United States to distribute female condoms free, part of a project that will make 500,000 of them available in beauty salons, convenience stores, and high schools in parts of the city with high HIV rates. City officials said female condoms give women more power to protect themselves from HIV and sexually transmitted diseases when their partners refuse to use protection. Distribution may begin within three weeks. (Washington Post)

NEW YORK
Tenor for Yankees headed to Boston
NEW YORK - Irish tenor Ronan Tynan says he’s leaving New York for Boston because he hasn’t been able to find work since a woman accused him of making an anti-Semitic remark. The New York Yankees dropped their tradition of having the singer perform “God Bless America’’ during the seventh-inning stretch after the incident in October. Tynan said other work has dried up and he has received threats. He said his reference to “two Jewish ladies’’ in his apartment building was mistaken for a slur. Tynan, 49, has family and friends in Boston. (AP)
