Jim Cooper, a Tennessee representative, has been involved in health care for years. During President Bill Clinton's administration he was a key player in the universal healthcare debate.

Cooper supports healthcare reform and public option, but he voted against the House healthcare bill in July, a vote he explained in an op-ed. Cooper has taught a course on health care policy at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University for a decade.
