Yahoo, Slate plan online debates

Yahoo! Inc. and publishers Slate and Huffington Post plan to host two online presidential debates moderated by broadcaster Charlie Rose that will let viewers question candidates and rank their performances. One event will be for candidates running for the Republican Party's nomination, and the other will have Democratic candidates, the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo said yesterday. Nurse convicted in spouse's killing
NEW BRUNSWICK -- A jury convicted a nurse yesterday of killing her husband and placing his body parts in three suitcases she tossed into Chesapeake Bay. Melanie McGuire, who wept as she heard the verdict, was convicted of murder, desecration of a corpse, perjury, and a weapons offense. She was acquitted on two counts of hindering prosecution and falsifying evidence. Authorities charged that she wrote anonymous letters in an attempt to thwart investigators. (AP)


Tornado injures 14 in Panhandle
CACTUS -- Fifty people left unaccounted for after a tornado destroyed homes in this Texas Panhandle town have now been located and appear to be safe, officials said yesterday. Buildings were flattened, power was knocked out to thousands, and debris was scattered for miles after the tornado touched down late Saturday. Fourteen people were injured, one critically. (AP)
