Six people have been injured in a shooting today at a FedEx facility in metro Atlanta, the Associated Press reports. Police said the suspect died in an apparent suicide.
A witness says a gunman who opened fire at a FedEx center outside Atlanta was armed with an assault rifle, a knife and had bullets strapped across his chest "like Rambo."
According to CNN, the shooting took place this morning in Kennesaw, Georgia, about 25 miles northwest of Atlanta.
The six injured people were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital Tyler Pearson said. One of the six was in surgery, he said.
A doctor at the hospital said three victims are in critical condition and two of them have life-threatening injuries, according to the Associated Press.
Dr. Michael Nitzken at Wellstar Kennestone hospital told reporters two of the victims had been treated and released while a third remained at the hospital and was stable. He said each of them had wounds consistent with shotgun blasts.
Authorities said they are not looking for any other suspects, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
"We have one individual that is deceased that we are describing as the suspect," Pierce said. "He is probably deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was located in the bay area of FedEx. We are completing the ground floor sweep at this point ? with the assistance of K-9."
Cobb County police received a call around 6 a.m. about an active shooter at the FedEx facility across the street from the Cobb County airport, WSB-TV in Atlanta reports. Police said the area has been secured.
Cobb County police said they believe only one shooter was involved. Police enlarged their search area to search for "secondary devices."
USA Today reports that FedEx is aware of the situation:
"Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our team members, first responders and others affected. FedEx is cooperating with authorities."
