2 Vt. men held without bail on meth charges
BURLINGTON, Vt.—A federal judge in Vermont says two Island Pond men facing methamphetamine charges must stay in jail while their cases are pending because there is no way to guarantee public safety if they are released.
A judge says there are no conditions that could guarantee the public safety if 29-year-old Frank Santaw and 43-year-old Kevin Dodge were to be released.
Magistrate Judge John Conroy says he would reconsider his decision if he receives new information.
The Burlington Free Press ( http://bfpne.ws/s0QukO) reports the judge said Santaw threatened a person he thought was cooperating with police prior to a Nov. 18 raid on a meth lab.
Efforts are under way to get Dodge into a drug treatment facility, but Conroy said the plan did not go far enough to protect the public.
