Vt. police charge 3 in string of copper thefts

ROYALTON, Vt.—Vermont State Police say three men are facing charges from a string of copper thefts over the last several years in five counties.

Police say the three were linked to 19 thefts of copper in Addison, Windsor, Washington, Rutland and Chittenden counties potentially valued at close to $300,000.

Twenty-eight-year-old Ben Webb of Ripton, 29-year-old Matthew Sheldrick of New Haven and 24-year-old Jake Desjadon are facing charges of burglary, larceny and selling stolen property.

The three were linked to a June burglary in the town of Hancock in which copper was stolen causing about $13,000 in damage to an industrial building owned by Vermont Verde Antique.

They were also linked to a series of thefts from a Brandon location valued at $275,000.

The three are due in court next week.
