BENNINGTON, Vt.—A southern Vermont company that makes steel products for customers throughout the Northeast is closing its doors after 43 years in business.
Bennington Iron works will close in May, putting 45 people out of work.
Iron Works president Curtis Morin says the company had tried to weather an extended downturn in the economy, but there isn't enough work to keep it in business. He says foreign competition also played a role.
The company designs and fabricates various steel products.
Morin tells the Bennington Banner the company will complete all pending work for customers and he'll seek a buyer. Employees will receive all of their benefits and the company will help the employees find new jobs.
