BENNINGTON, Vt.—With 66 meatless entrees on its cafeteria menu, Vermont's Bennington College is in the running to be named the most vegan-friendly small college in the country.

Bennington is one of 32 schools competing in the "small U.S. schools" category in the competition hosted by a branch of the organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

The group Peta2 selected schools based on student recommendations and independent research into the quality and quantity of vegan food options served on campuses.

Bennington dining services director William Scully tells the Bennington Banner there is at least one vegan entree offered to the school's 650 students every lunch and dinner.
