PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Island lawmakers are taking a look at measures designed to prevent the hiring of illegal immigrants in the state.
The House Committee on Labor is scheduled to hold hearings on two bills aimed at illegal immigration Tuesday at the Statehouse.
One would require state officials and state contractors to use the federal E-Verify program, a database for screening the immigration status of potential workers.
Another bill would also require all businesses with three or more employees to use E-Verify.
The bills have not been scheduled for a vote.![]()
