WARWICK, R.I.—A Rhode Island high-school science teacher has been presented with a $25,000 award during a surprise ceremony.
State education officials say Pilgrim High School teacher Michael Lobdell was presented Wednesday with the 2011 Milken Educator Award.
The award honors "exceptional educators" and is administered by the Milken Family Foundation.
Lobdell has been working in Warwick schools for the past six years, where he has taught general science and biology.
During the summer, he collaborates with Rhode Island College on a DNA theory program for high-school students. He is also the founder of an after-school homework club at Pilgrim.
