PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Island officials have temporarily suspended a Johnston attorney from practicing law after they say he failed to comply with court conditions while he was under investigation for possible misconduct.

The Supreme Court's Disciplinary Counsel on Thursday suspended Damon D'Ambrosio. The order goes into effect on Friday.

Chief Disciplinary Counsel David Curtin says D'Ambrosio failed to comply with conditions imposed on him after a former client complained he never paid $3,242 medical bills for her. Curtin says the bills were to be paid from an $11,000 personal injury settlement D'Ambrosio negotiated for his client in February.

The court had ordered D'Ambrosio to provide financial records, seek medical treatment and counseling and participate in Gamblers Anonymous.

D'Ambrosio did not immediately return a message on Friday.
