Jill Biden to speak at Salve Regina commencement

NEWPORT, R.I.—Salve Regina (reh-JEE'-nuh) University says Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, will deliver the school's commencement speech.

The Catholic co-educational school in Newport will hold its 61st commencement on Sunday, May 15. Jill Biden will be awarded an honorary doctorate in humane letters.

She holds a doctorate in education and has been an educator for 30 years. Since her husband became vice president, she has advocated for the importance of community colleges and attention to women's health issues such as breast cancer She has also focused on the challenges faced by military families.

Salve Regina trustee Nuala Pell, widow of the late Democratic Sen. Claiborne Pell, is a Biden family friend.
