NEWPORT, R.I.—A Tiverton woman says she forgives her son, who is accused of killing her husband and seriously wounding her.

Joel Beaulieu (BULL'-yuh) has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder and first degree assault with intent to murder in the September attack.

His mother, Dianne Beaulieu, attended his arraignment Thursday and passed a note saying she loves, supports and forgives her son to a reporter for NBC 10 in Providence.

A no-contact order between mother and son has been lifted, and Dianne Beaulieu says she wants to visit her 29-year-old son in prison.

Joel Beaulieu is accused of stabbing his father, Conrad Beaulieu, to death with a kitchen knife last September, then attacking his mother. Police have said she spent more than a month in Rhode Island Hospital recovering.

Police have not discussed a motive.
