SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.—A Rhode Island woman has been sentenced to serve eight of a possible 10-years in prison for driving through a red light and killing a motorcyclist.

Laura Reale pleaded guilty last month to driving to endanger, death resulting, in the May 16 death of Colin Foote in Charlestown.

Superior Court Judge Edwin Gale said at Friday's sentencing that Reale had been a "self-consumed" marijuana addict whose reckless behavior led to the crash. He said he was giving her two years probation so she would be monitored after her release. He also ordered counseling and community service for Reale, who has a history of driving violations.

Foote's family and friends spoke in court about the pain his death has caused. Reale apologized for "my senseless actions" and said she prays for Foote and his family.
