PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A former Rhode Island state senator who has pleaded guilty to federal bank fraud charges has been suspended from practicing law in the state court system.
A state Supreme Court order issued Friday says Christopher Maselli, who pleaded guilty last month and is awaiting sentencing, has agreed to the suspension. He has also been suspended from practicing law in the federal court.
Maselli has admitted fraudulently receiving $1.7 million in loans and mortgages by lying to banks about his income and submitting phony tax returns.
