PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A judge has set an Aug. 27 deadline for the sale of a financially troubled Woonsocket hospital.

The court-appointed special master in charge of Landmark Medical Center called that a "very doable timeline" for the hospital to reach an agreement with Boston-based Catholic hospital chain, Caritas Christi Health Care.

The Providence Journal reports that special master Jonathan Savage has been trying to sell the hospital for two years and since last September has been negotiating exclusively with Caritas.

Representatives of the state attorney general's office, the state Department of Health, and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island urged the judge on Tuesday not to let negotiations drag on for fear that Landmark will be in such poor shape that no one will be interested in buying it.
