PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A judge has ruled that former Rhode Island Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank J. Williams can continue seeing his 6-year-old godchild.

The Providence Journal reports that Family Court Judge John E. McCann III said Friday that the child's father, Frank DosReis, did not present any evidence that the relationship between Williams and the child was harmful to her.

Williams was pulled into the divorce case of the child's parents when DosReis accused the former chief justice of being overly involved in the couple's lives and the upbringing of their daughter. The issue led to an order in October, barring all unrelated males from visiting the child. The order was lifted March 2 when the divorce was granted.

Williams has insisted there was nothing improper about his relationship with the girl's mother, Pamela DosReis, his former driver, or with the child.
