CONCORD, N.H.—New Hampshire is offering beginning anglers a chance to learn fishing basics in a free, one-day class.

The Fish and Game Department is offering classes Aug. 2 at the Libby Museum in Wolfeboro and Aug. 10 at the Umbagog Lake Campground in Cambridge. Registration is first-come, first served for limited slots.

The introductory classes will teach participants about equipment, safety, knot tying, fish identification, basic ecology and casting techniques. Participants will get a chance in the afternoon to try their new skills. Equipment and materials are provided. A fishing license is not required to participate.

The classes are open to anyone age 8 and up, but children under age 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

The classes are part of the "Let's Go Fishing" program.
