NH House bans BPA in baby feeding containers

CONCORD, N.H.—The New Hampshire House has voted 166-125 to ban the production or sale of baby food or beverage containers containing a controversial chemical.
Bisphenol A -- more commonly known as BPA -- is a plastic hardener present in products from CDs to water bottles. BPA has received negative publicity because of research suggesting that ingesting it interferes with the reproductive and nervous systems.
Ban supporters say it is necessary to protect children's health, while opponents say the industry has largely regulated itself and removed BPA from those products.
Eleven other states have bans on baby feeding products containing BPA.
