NH fugitive shot during arrest in Fla.
CONCORD, N.H.—A New Hampshire fugitive has been shot and killed during an arrest in Florida.
The U.S. Marshals Service says 22-year-old Joseph Cleary of Rochester, N.H., was shot Tuesday after he pointed a firearm at a law enforcement officer.
U.S marshals in Florida were asked to find and arrest Cleary, who was considered armed and dangerous.
Officials say that when they found him in Cape Coral and tried to arrest him, he pointed a firearm at an officer and was shot by a sheriff in an exchange of gunfire. No law enforcement officers were injured.
The Marshals Service said Cleary was wanted in Strafford County in New Hampshire for bail and probation violations, stemming from a 2008 assault with a knife in Barrington.
