CONCORD, N.H.—A New Hampshire high school science teacher who inspires her students to meet new challenges is the state's 2012 teacher of the year.
Windham High School science teacher Bethany Bernasconi has been teaching science for eight years, the last three at Windham High School.
Principal Thomas Murphy says her passion for her students and for science prompts students to challenge themselves and makes the learning process exciting.
With her award Thursday, Bernasconi becomes a contender for National Teacher of the Year.
Bernasconi in her application for teacher of the year said she strives to make the science of the living world meaningful so they embrace its complexity and work to preserve it.
Bernasconi was honored at an assembly at the high school.
