RAYMOND, N.H.—A Raymond police officer is being credited with saving the life of a soldier home from overseas deployment by pulling him out of a burning car.

Police say Officer Ryan Lehman was nearby when he heard the report of a crash on a Route 101 off-ramp early Sunday morning. He could see the car in the woods so instead of driving he ran through the woods to get there just as the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

Twenty-year-old Cameron Kaufman of Bedford was seatbelted in the car as the flames reached his pant leg.

Lehman removed the seat belt and carried Kaufman to safety.

The cause of the collision is being investigated. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
