AMHERST, N.H.—A New Hampshire middle school is canceling a five-day educational retreat because bedbugs were discovered at the camp where the retreat was to be held.

The 180 grade six students from the Amherst Middle School had planned to spend this week at Nature's Classroom at Camp Cody in Freedom.

But the program was canceled after bedbugs were discovered at the camp.

Last year as many as 21 middle-schoolers from Amherst and Epping were bitten by bedbugs while attending Nature's Classroom.

Camp Cody Executive Director Phillip Ross tells the New Hampshire Union Leader the camp performs bedbug checks with specially trained dogs. He says the camp is being treated to get rid of the bedbugs.

Meanwhile, educators are looking for another location so the Amherst field trip can be rescheduled.
