LINCOLN, N.H.—Three Brown University college students have been found safe after getting lost for a night in New Hampshire's White Mountains.

Fish and Game Sgt. Brian Suttmeier says the three young men from the Rhode Island school were in a group of about a dozen hikers Sunday afternoon when they decided to go off on their own in Franconia Notch. Suttmeier says the men weren't wearing appropriate clothing, and had no flashlights, food or matches with them when they decided to go off the trail.

The students used a cell phone to call for help Sunday evening. Fish and Game officers and volunteer rescuers found the men around 2 a.m. Monday.

Suttmeier says it is possible officials will try to seek reimbursement for the rescue effort.
