Man accused of assaulting police chief is arrested

A man suspected of assaulting and injuring a police chief during a traffic stop in New Hampshire has been returned to the state after he was arrested in Massachusetts. Police said they arrested Russell N. Monbleau, 38, on Tuesday at a residence in Fitchburg, Mass. He was returned to New Hampshire on Wednesday and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday. Mason police said Chief Barry Hutchens was trying to arrest Monbleau on Friday night when Monbleau struck him several times and threw a metal chair at him, knocking him to the ground. Monbleau then ran into the woods. Police searched the area with dogs but were unable to find him.
