The route

Much of Iris Soares's daily life focuses on navigating a circuit of food pantries in Dorchester and Roxbury to help feed her family. To do this, she depends on Bus 19, which serves as a lifeline to some of Boston's poorest neighborhoods.

Most days, Soares walks to the bus station at Fields Corner at 6:05 a.m. to catch an early Bus 19. She goes to eight different food pantries to feed herself and members of her extended family.
