Power boat racer dies in Taunton
TAUNTON, Mass.—The operator of a power boat participating in a race on a Taunton pond over the weekend died after his boat flipped.
A spokesman for the Massachusetts Environmental Police says the man died when his boat flipped near the end of a race Sunday on Watson Pond.
The spokesman said Monday the victim was a 73-year-old Walpole resident, but did not disclose his name.
The death remains under investigation.
The boat was taking part in the Bill Giles Hometown Taunton Cup Regatta, according to the American Power Boat Association's website.
One of the event's organizers, Charles Gonyea, tells The Taunton Daily Gazette ( http://bit.ly/QwLqxJ) that losing a fellow competitor is like losing a family member.
