Mass. boy, 12, takes wheel after dad's seizure
PEABODY, Mass.—State police are calling a 12-year-old boy a hero after he steered his family's car to safety along Interstate 95 in Peabody after his father suffered what appeared to be a seizure while driving.
Troopers say the boy, who's from Dracut, took the wheel, steered it into the southbound breakdown lane and applied the brakes shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday. He also used his dad's cell phone to call 911 and described his surroundings to a dispatcher, then brought his 9-year-old, special needs sister to safety behind a guardrail.
Authorities haven't released the boy's name. They say his 46-year-old father was unconscious at the scene and brought to a clinic in Peabody, but is in good condition.
