Charlie, the T’s new mascot, may ride forever

The MBTA Wednesday debuted a “Charlie” mascot to promote public transportation and match the cartoon drawing who has appeared on CharlieCards and CharlieTickets for nearly a decade. He gamely visited a host of tourist sites and transit stations while accompanied by a team of handlers, who helped him avoid falling into the tracks or getting hit by a bus as a result of the limited vision afforded by the costume. He also took frequent breaks, ducking out of sight to hydrate and remove a giant felt head that sealed the heat.
