2 great white sharks detected off Cape Cod
CHATHAM, Mass.—The heat isn't the only sign that summer has returned.
State fisheries officials say two great white sharks tagged last summer off the Cape Cod coast have been detected via transmitter signals picked up earlier this month off Chatham (CHAT'-uhm).
Great white sharks have been spotted off Chatham often in recent years and last summer shark sightings closed several beaches. They are drawn to the area by an abundance of seals, which sharks feed on.
State shark expert Greg Skomal says the tags can provide data on when the sharks leave the Cape and their movement over long distances.
