BOSTON—Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has signed agreements that will expand the state's innovation partnerships with Spain, Denmark and Sweden

Patrick signed memorandums of understanding with Catalonia, Spain and the Medicon Valley located in Denmark and Sweden on Wednesday at the BIO International Convention in Boston.

The agreements focus on expanding and strengthening the state's innovation economy by helping collaboration in research, economic development in life sciences and academic cooperation.

The Democratic governor said the partnerships will allow Massachusetts and the countries pursue "mutual goals in this part of the global economy."

The week-long BIO International Convention allows state officials and industries leaders to showcase the Bay State as a world leader in life sciences. Over 15,000 attendees are expected.
