RI robbery suspect caught in Mass. after chase
FALL RIVER, Mass.—Massachusetts police and FBI agents have arrested a Rhode Island bank robbery suspect who crashed his car outside a Fall River fire station in a police pursuit.
State Police spokesman David Procopio said 34-year-old Scott Niemic of Boston was arrested Monday afternoon on a Rhode Island warrant. Niemic was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries. He's expected to be turned over to Warwick police. Procopio said Niemic is suspected in seven Massachusetts robberies.
An FBI agent saw Niemic's car on Route 24 in Raynham and notified state police, who also pursued. Niemic crashed at Bedford and Troy Streets at 5:18 p.m. after striking a car and a utility pole.
District Fire Chief Douglas Sullivan tells the Herald News he heard the crash and found state police already there. Sullivan said the other driver also was hospitalized.
