Cape Wind selects construction contractor
BOSTON—The Cape Wind offshore wind project has selected its construction contractor for the 130-turbine project planned for Nantucket Sound.
Cape Wind's developer announced Tuesday that the joint venture team of Flatiron Construction Corp,
Developers say the 468-megawatt project will produce electricity by 2014. Cape Wind estimates it will create 600 to 1,000 jobs during construction and 50 permanent jobs.
The $2.6 billion project is seeking financing after selling about 27 percent of its projected power to the utility
NStar agreed to the purchase as a condition of Massachusetts approval of its acquisition by
Cape Wind now has committed buyers for about three quarters of its power.
