Mass. police charge trucker after bridge crash
FALL RIVER, Mass.—A truck driver who said he was the victim of road rage when his truck crashed and burned in Fall River last month is facing drunken driving and other charges after police say his account didn't hold up.
State police said Thursday 42-year-old Luis Cotto of Taunton has been charged with operating under the influence and traffic violations. He will be summoned to court later. It's not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
Cotto said after the Feb. 19 crash that someone in another vehicle tried to cut him off and later shot at his truck, causing the gas tank to explode.
Damage from crash closed two Route 79 ramps to the Braga Bridge for several days.
State police said they couldn't find any evidence to support his story, and he recanted it.
