BROCKTON, Mass.—A 65-year-old military veteran who had two limbs amputated is dead after his motorized wheelchair was struck by a car while crossing a busy road in Brockton.

U.S. Marine Corps veteran Edwin Nelson was crossing Belmont Street on Monday when a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Frank Dernoga crashed into his wheelchair. He was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Enterprise ( http://bit.ly/rLH2rR) reports that police are reviewing surveillance video that captured the accident from a nearby business.

There was no immediate word on whether Dernoga, from Taunton, would be charged.

Nelson was living at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center which is located less than a mile away from the crash site.
