Friends, customers, and community members will come together tonight in Ipswich to mourn and remember Shui Keung “Tony’’ Woo, 62, the popular restaurant owner who was found dead in his Route 1 establishment Tuesday.

The candlelight vigil will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. outdoors at the foot of Town Hill, said Joan Soffron, another business owner and friend of Woo who was among residents who wanted to give the public an opportunity to grieve for a man who for decades operated the Majestic Dragon restaurant.

“We wanted to . . . show the family that we’re reeling with the loss of Tony,’’ said Soffron in a phone interview.

Woo’s funeral is planned for tomorrow at noon at the First Congregational Church in Rowley, with burial to follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston.

According to witnesses, Woo, who lived in Quincy, was found in the restaurant by employees with his legs bound and his arms crossed, shot twice - once in the chest and once in the head, the Globe reported last week.

The Essex district attorney’s office confirmed yesterday that Woo’s death is being investigated as a homicide but declined to release autopsy results because of the ongoing investigation, spokesman Steve O’Connell said in an e-mail.

Woo’s death has shocked the town and puzzled those who knew him. He was described as entrepreneurial but also warm and generous.

Authorities have not released many details about the case or how Woo was killed.

Hundreds of mourners are expected to attend visiting hours from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow before Woo’s funeral at the Rowley church, said the Rev. Bob Hagopian of the First Congregational Church.

A brief, simple service was requested by his family, said Hagopian.

He said Woo’s two sons will deliver the eulogy.
