HARPERS FERRY, W.Va.—It took more than two decades, but a Massachusetts man has achieved his goal of walking the 2,100-plus miles of the Appalachian Trail.
Jim Haskell hiked 100 miles of the trail each year for 21 consecutive years. He completed the final seven-tenths of a mile Sunday in Harpers Ferry.
The 50-year-old Ipswich, Mass., resident's yearly trek began in 1990. He told The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Md., that he knew he wouldn't have the time to be through hiker. So, he decided to the walk the trail in sections.
The Appalachian Trail stretches through 14 states, from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine.
