BOSTON—A Republican challenger to Democratic U.S. Rep. Barney Frank is preparing to launch his candidacy.
Sean Bielat, a former Marine Corps lieutenant, will formally announce his campaign Monday morning at the Coolidge Corner Theater in his hometown of Brookline.
Bielat says two of his top concerns are national security and fiscal responsibility. He says he's collected enough signatures to get on the ballot for the Sept. 14 primary elections.
He's not the only Republican in the race.
Earl Sholley, a former landscape company owner, says he's also collected enough signatures to get on the ballot. Sholley ran unsuccessfully against Frank two years ago.
Frank, who serves as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, has become a favorite target of Republicans. He's seeking his 16th term in the U.S. House.
