BOSTON—Worcester County Sheriff Guy Glodis (GLOW'-diss) is officially running for state auditor.

The Democrat announced Monday he would be a candidate to succeed Auditor Joseph DeNucci, who is retiring.

Former Patrick administration Labor secretary Suzanne Bump is also a candidate for the Democratic nomination in September.

Former Massachusetts Turnpike Authority board member Mary Connaughton is also seeking the Republican nomination.

Glodis says the auditor can be more than an accountant and work also "on the front lines of job creation, reducing property taxes, economic development and good government."

He served in the Legislature for eight years before being elected sheriff in 2004.

Gov. Deval Patrick is refusing to endorse Bump, saying he is focusing on his own re-election campaign this fall. Glodis is from a politically important part of the state.
