Marches, rallies planned locally for national 'Day Without Immigrants'

Marches, rallies and walkouts are planned at various locations around the state today in support of the national “A Day without Immigrants” protest.

Highlights in Boston and Cambridge include a 1 p.m. march from Post Office Square to the State House; a 4 p.m. rally on Boston Common; and a student-worker walkout and rally at Harvard University, followed by a march to the State House.

Events scheduled for today include:

Boston:
11:30 a.m. Rally at O'Neill Plaza, Boston College, to be followed by a march at 1:30 p.m.

1 p.m. March in support of immigrant workers sponsored by Service Employees International Union Local 615. Departs from Post Office Square and ends with 3 p.m. press conference at State House.

4 p.m. Rally on Boston Common, 4-7 p.m., sponsored by Boston May Day Coalition, Chelsea Uniendose en Contra de la Guerra, Latinos for Social Change, Latinos Unidos de Massachusetts, Socialist Alternative, Alliance for a Secular and Democratic South Asia, Greater Boston Stop the Wars Coalition, International Socialist Organization, July 26th Coalition.

6:30 p.m. Vigil and reflection at Stony Brook Station, Jamaica Plain.

Amherst
Rally on Town Common at noon with Communities Against Hate, Amnesty Ahora, and the Five College May 1st Coalition (Amherst College, UMass College, Hampshire College, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College).

Brockton
12:30 p.m., vigil in court yard in front of City Hall.

Cambridge
Noon, supporters of renewing the city's "sanctuary city" resolution will meet at Centro Presente, 54 Essex St. for a rally.

1 p.m. Student-worker walkout and rally at Harvard University, followed by march to State House.

4 p.m. Vigil in front of Cambridge City Hall. (795 Mass Ave, Central Square).

Chelsea
3 p.m. March from Central Square, East Boston, to Chelsea City Hall.

Fitchburg
1 p.m., March from Pizza DeLeon at Central Plaza to downtown Fitchburg.

Framingham
6:30 p.m., Immigrant workers Mass (English and Spanish), Saint Stephen's Catholic Church, 251 Concord St.

Lowell
3 p.m. Rally at City Hall.

Somerville
4 p.m. Rally/ vigil in front of Foss Park.

Springfield

4:30 p.m. rally, First Church of Christ, 50 Elm St.

Waltham
6:30 p.m. Vigil on Town Common.

Worcester
4 p.m. Rally in front of Worcester City Hall, 455 Main St.
