Faces of change
Zong Da Guo, 56, North Quincy
-- Arrived from China in 2004
-- Supermarket worker/English student at Malden's Immigrant Learning Center
I came here because this is a free country and because my family was here. I was a manager in a steel factory in China. I study English Monday to Friday. On the weekend I work at Ming Supermarket. I live here, work here, so need to learn English. It is a little bit difficult. I want to do the same job I did in China. I feel happy learning English because the more you learn, you can speak some, and you feel happy. (To get to classes) I take the subway. Red line from North Quincy to Downtown Crossing. Orange Line to Malden Center, then walk. It takes 1 hour, 15 minutes.
