Funeral arrangements for Jeremiah Oliver, the 5-year-old Fitchburg boy who disappeared in September and was found dead in April, were announced on Monday.
WCVB reported that calling hours would be held between 9 and 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 at Rollstone Congregational Church in Fitchburg, with a funeral at Hope Cemetery in Worcester to follow immediately after.
The funeral had to be delayed after the judge in the case surrounding the boy’s disappearance ordered his body held while his mother’s defense conducted an independent autopsy.
The mother, Elsa Oliver, is facing charges of kidnapping, assault, and child endangerment. She was scheduled to make an appearance in court on Monday, but it was postponed until May 28 after psychological issues left her “substantially unable to participate in her own defense,” according to a Globe report.
Her boyfriend, Alberto Sierra Jr., is also being charged in the boy’s disappearance. Both Sierra and Oliver have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
No one has been officially charged in the boy’s death as investigators work to determine a cause.
