A Boston Children’s Hospital doctor lauded for her efforts in the wake of last year’s Boston Marathon bombing was back on the field helping others.
Natalie Stavas have been live-tweeting her marathon run throughout the day. By 1:30 p.m., however, her series of happy, playful tweets turned serious. She stopped at mile 19 to take photos as first responders administered CPR to another runner.
You may recognize Stavas’s name. She was one of several doctors who went from participant to medic during last year’s marathon. According to her personal website, Stavas was blocks from the finish line in 2013 when the first explosives went off. Once she realized what was happening, she hurdled a fence and ran down an alley toward the finish line. The Boston Globe named her a 2013 Bostonian of the Year.
