There can be no middle ground when it comes to the December vacation for students in Norwood. The town’s School Committee turned down a proposal to call the break the “Winter/Christmas recess,” according to The Boston Globe.
The vacation period was previously called “Christmas recess,” but the committee voted to change the name to “Winter recess” two years ago, the Globe reported. That led to an outcry from some quarters in Norwood. The town held a non-binding referendum on the matter Monday, with 76 percent voting to change the name back to “Christmas recess.”
Last night’s proposal for a compromise lost on a 2-2 vote, with one committee member absent, according to the Globe.
